Buying in China, Going direct to the Factory

Do you currently buy from China?

Do you have an agent that helps you buy in China?

Do you pay them on a commission basis?

Many of our customers are coming to try and bypass their agents after they have found out how much actually gets paid in commissions.  They start off looking for a cheaper price and realize there are great savings to be had with other factories.  When they get here and find that their already dealing with that factory and paying 15% higher prices than the company lists on their web site they start to ask where is this extra going.

We help out a large number of customers who have these same issues, either their agent has gotten greedy over the years or their agent has other ideas and can’t be bothered with the service now they think they have a steady permanent income coming in.  Often a customer is dumbfounded when they find the factory the visit to change to be their new supplier at a reduced cost is in fact their current supplier with a marked up commission added.

Still we have some that have realized after years of doing business and find their quality going down they want to change factories but they agent does not want to and this leads them to seek us out and get help to start again.  Many f these customers realize they have let things go with no paper trail and real idea of who they are getting their goods made from or where.

Don’t misunderstand my meaning; there is a market for commission as this I even do work this way at the customer’s request.  There are still many who like to have a trusted agent in China as much because they can’t afford a full time office and employee, as the ease it gives them for many small items continuously.   But my customers knows me, they know how much they give me in commission, they know where the factories are and who the contacts are at the factories and they have control of the money, almost always they will come and visit the supplier at least once before we start business.

We specialize in helping visitors to China with the following range of services,

-Finding the products they want

-finding new suppliers

-visiting and interpreting at factories

-visiting and staffing expos

-travel and arrangements in China

If you need help with finding out who your suppliers are and getting the control of your supply chin again contact us and ask for a price we usually charge a daily rate to help you.  You would be shocked at how many customers we have helped with this problem, so by all means your not alone.

Off to Yiwu Market again

It’s that time again for me to head down to Yiwu where every corner there is a trading company operating.
It all starts with the trip to the train station in Hongqiao and a 3hour ride to Yiwu train station.  This is the one part of the journey I never like, so boring and tiresome.
Finally here what to do its late the market has already closed couldn’t get an earlier seat on the train so had to wait till the 2:30pm train and now it’s after 6pm.  I will just got for a look around and see what the local street markets have to offer.  God I love this city every shop is a wholesale trader and on the rare occasion you find an ordinary shop their prices come in single items or by the thousand for bulk purchases.  It’s crazy, everyone here is trading or trying to, you catch a taxi and they give you advice on what you should and should not be buying and where the best spots are, everyone and everything is part of the market.  It’s like the market is the city or the city has merged to become one big market with every resident and visitor getting in on the action. God I love this makes me come alive and the blood flows with new vigor.

Well it’s late and I have been to the tea shops and the fruit and noodle stores and browsed several of the specialty shops but not really found anything to keep me interested enough to buy its time to retire to my hotel.  It seems that most of the smaller hotels around the edge of the market are oriented to the Muslim visitors and decorated with Muslim oriented furniture.  But all I really need is a nice soft bed and clean room and I can fall asleep all night without noticing any of the wonderful decorations, and in the morning it will be rush to the market as quick as I possibly can.

Aaawww its morning and I slept like a dream, but no time need to hurray and rush to the market as the doors open to get everything done in time.  Ah I love the sight of the tall signs above the gates telling you what district your at and stating the gate number and their contents, it a guide you find they still jumble it about a little no matter what the market signs say.

My first task is to find the supplier I have used for an order and give her the deposit to begin collecting my goods, she was a little difficult to deal with and would not send a receipt to me so I did not want to pay from the bank so I will see her now.  Oh my god I understand why she didn’t want to give me a receipt she couldn’t even work out how to write one for me and I needed to explain where she has to sign the receipt, do people really do business like this sending off money willy nilly without any receipts at all?  Can it be people are that quick to throw their money away?  Well I pay and off to the next booth to make another deposit and add extra to my order, or my clients order.
This one goes smoother other than the lady not knowing who I am till I explain I sent her money yesterday and wow did that refresh the memory I find nothing helps a bad memory like money at Yiwu.
All sorted that went easier than I thought especially after the first shop and the receipt fiasco. I will head down to the freight forwarder now to organize the warehouse and accumulate my order from the 20 odd separate shops my client has collected from.

Well it’s a long way to the shipper his warehouse is next to the market at the customs house but his office is 15k away in a small village allotment of flash villas that look like incredibly wealthy houses till you find a dozen companies in each one all renting out their own shoe box space.  My shipper has a nice space on the upper floors with his couple of staff and an area for tea so we have a drink while discussing how we will go about accumulating al the goods into one before inspection shipping begins.
In Yiwu t seems unique that there are so many small trading and shipping companies and no Hugh ones like you get in other cities.  With most having between 1 and 5 staff and a solid website to back them up making you think there are hundreds working for them.

No my business is over I need to head back to Shanghai possibly passing the market for a quick look on the way, another friendly and ex trader for a taxi driver with more knowledge to share than a trading agent of ten years.  His advice is sound but I can’t help but wonder why he is driving taxis if it’s so easy.
He drops me off and promises to wait well that’s fine by me hard to get a taxi in this city at the best of times.  I look for a bit but can’t be bothered; I am stuffed and decide to head to the train station for the long trip home.  My taxi driver is still there and takes me to the station charging me appropriately for the wait mmm should discussed that beforehand.  Love the small city taxis as they always stop and ask people on the way for the extra fare and before we know it I have a squashed cab of people all headed to the train station.  It still seems to me that I am paying the bulk of the fare with a small amount added for each person.(don’t I get a discount for the loss of comfort)

The train home and will sleep and dream of what I could have earned at Yiwu had I been buying for myself and not my customer.  It will all happen again in another week back to Yiwu again.
God I love this little city, the home of the small commodities market and the wholesale shop on every street corner.  This city has a buzz that is missing in other cities and I just can’t get enough of the atmosphere.  Till next time I have written enough.
If you are thinking of heading to Yiwu contact me for assistance, as you can see I travel here quite a bit and really enjoy the life of chasing the product for my customers.
Please feel free contact us.
